Tier 2 cost
If you are considering moving to the UK on a Tier 2 General visa then what you may be wondering is – how much does it cost? Like most of the UK visas, there are several costs as well as the application cost and you must take these into account. In this article, we investigate those costs in more detail.
What is the cost to make an application for a Tier 2 General Visa in the UK?
The cost of making an application is different depending on where you come from and how long you will stay in the UK. The application fee starts from £532. This covers the application itself and does not cover any extra surcharges such as the immigration health surcharge and the biometric residence permit charge. You can see the cost of these further down the page but this cost is purely for the application itself.
How much is the Immigration Health Surcharge?
The immigration health surcharge is £200 per year of your visa and is payable at the time of application. The surcharge allows you to use the National Health Service in the UK which provides free at the point of use Healthcare for everybody who is eligible for it. The Immigration Health Surcharge was set up as a way to try and offset the cost that migrants traveling to the UK add to the general running costs of the National Health Service.
How much is the Biometric Residence Permit?
Another condition of the Tier 2 General Visa is the necessity to have a Biometric Residence Permit. The permit shows immigration officials and your employer identification details that are individual to you and also show how long you have on your visa. It is vitally important that you hold it all times as you may be fined if you do not have it. The cost will vary depending on where you are applying from. In the UK it is £19.20 to have your biometric information taken at a Post Office branch.
Are there any other costs for the Tier 2 General visa?
No, these are the only costs that are involved directly, but please be aware that you will need to match the eligibility criteria for a minimum salary and also maintain a level of savings which show that you will be able to support yourself in the UK for a short period of time before your employment starts. You will also need to be able to show that you can support your dependants if you were bringing them with you and this is also part of the savings requirement.
